The Trail description

This trail leads from Manarola to Riomaggiore, these are the two nearest villages to each other in the Cinque Terre. They are also connected by the Path of Love, which takes its course at the foothill. When the Path of Love is closed, via Beccara is an alternative route between the villages.

Let us suppose that you are planning your trip from Manarola, In such case the trail will start from the central square, near the church. If your route starts from Riomaggiore, check with the map, because you will need to go up from the railway station via serpentines road. Then, you will see the sign of the trail beginning.

The route is not long, but a special one: Manarola and Riomaggiore, situated next to each other, are divided by the 249 metres (817.9 ft.) hill, and via Beccara wends its way through the hill’s top, that's why the trail starts gaining height and then suddenly goes down. Here you will find 620 steps on each side of the hill.

The trail is a quite popular place for walking in winter, as there is a tradition in Manarola to organise a Christmas nativity scene (Presepe). The exposition can be distinctly seen from via Beccara. More details on the nativity scene are here: The Nativity Scene in Manarola (Presepe).
