The Trail description
The trail is quite popular among the tourists due to its green landscapes. It is recommended to start the route from Corniglia, as the village is located one hundred metres (330 ft.) above the sea level. Consequently, the climb will be much smoother.
If you are walking from Manarola, please be careful, your way will start from 1200 steps! Anyway, you can use a bus. It will take you to Volastra, which is 335 metres (1100 ft.) above the sea (check the map). Predominantly the trail has a tendency for a way down from Volastra, so be prepared for 1 hour 45 minutes trip.
While walking along this admirable trail, you will see the farmers looking after olive and grape trees on the dry land of Manarola and Corniglia. Do not forget about Volastra. 2000 years ago, this tiny village was called Vicus Oleaster that meant "the village of olive grove".
The longest stretch of the trail wends its way through the vineyards and comes into the forest. The landscapes here are so astounding!
You can find here some places, where heather and branches of chestnut trees interweave into a magnificent tunnel.
